I want you to be a little bit scared. A little uncomfortable. Maybe, sometimes, a lot uncomfortable. But I want you to pay attention to the beauty that’s there, even in the dust. Look closely. Be in awe of the dirt as much as the flower.
I am a multidisciplinary writer and director, working in fiction, screen, stage, and audio drama. I write gothic whimsy, which spans a variety of genres such as magical realism, horror, comedy, and domestic and workplace surrealism, through the lens of the American west, working/middle class perspectives, and fem-presenting experiences.
My work is often immersive and interactive-minded, an structurally explores the collisions of different writing and performance modes.
I create work that centers and uplifts the stories of fem-presenting folks and complicates the representation of women/fem characters, and their relationships to each other as well as societal expectations/demands. My work is most interested in the ways that fem bodies are othered, stripped of their rights and safety nets, and put in danger - and how our power can be lost, reclaimed and refined.
The environment of Southern California is a centerpiece of much of my work, as it is my birthplace and home; I reflect my landscape in the work, particularly focusing on more invisible locations outside of Los Angeles, or forgotten spaces within Los Angeles.
